All About Our Approach to Skincare

Have you tried to get serious about your skincare routine, only to end up feeling confused and overwhelmed?

You’re not alone! Skincare, just like sustainability, can be confusing to navigate. With seemingly endless products to choose from and new ones coming out every day, it can feel impossible to know which is right for you.

However, contrary to what you might see on social media, a good skincare routine isn’t about the number of products you use, but the quality. In fact, most skincare professionals will tell you that there are only a handful of core products that should be non-negotiable in your routine.

Let’s simplify your routine!

Your basic skincare routine

Modern day skincare routines lead to overconsumption and overspending far too easily. We want to help you make informed choices to not only avoid wasting resources, but also to keep your skin healthy and protected for the long term.

The Earthling Co.’s skincare line is formulated exactly to this end. We set out to create intentional skin products that help create effective, yet simple routines, so you can nurture your skin and our planet at the same time.

Here are the top five key skincare products that dermatologists and estheticians say are crucial to a skincare routine:

1. Cleansers

A good cleanser clears off dirt and grime. It should not be stripping and leave your skin feeling tight and dry.

Daily antioxidant serum

2. Antioxidant/Vitamin C Serum

This serum is important to combat sun damage. A good serum also helps to fight photoaging, free radicals, and hyperpigmentation. However, when it comes to Vitamin C, the formulation is important. L-ascorbic acid is notoriously unstable and can oxidize easily, rendering the product ineffective. Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, on the other hand, is considered L-ascorbic acid’s equivalent but is much stabler and more penetrative on the skin which is why we included it in our Daily Antioxidant Serum.

3. Moisturizers

This one might seem obvious, but having hydrated and moisturized skin (they mean different things!) is important for a healthy skin barrier. Check for hydrating ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid to be sure your skin is getting the hydration it needs.

4. Sunscreen

Another obvious one is sunscreen, but it can’t be emphasized enough. A good SPF is the best anti-aging skincare that money can buy.

5. Retinoids or Retinol

Retinoids are derived from Vitamin A, and they help old cells on the top of your skin turn over (die), and encourage new cell growth deep within your skin to emerge faster than it normally would. Retinol is a type of retinoid. Retinol is generally available over the counter and is not as strong as retinoids are (which can also mean it’s less irritating for some people). It is recommended that people start this product in their routine in their mid-to-late 20’s.

And that’s it, the whole list of products necessary for your core skincare routine! Is that shorter than you were expecting?

Another factor to consider in your routine is looking out for specific ingredients. We recommend looking for lines that avoid using sulfates, artificial colors, fragrances or essential oils, silicones, parabens, and phthalates. These ingredients can cause irritation and breakouts.

At The Earthling Co., we’re very conscious about the ingredients and packaging materials we use. Our skincare line is crafted very intentionally, with each product having multiple functions, so you can build a more conscious routine.

We don’t think skincare (or sustainability) should be complicated, nor should it add to the growing waste problem our world already has. Having a simple, efficient skincare routine is good for you, your wallet, and the planet.
